In production design, my first step is to open the door of realism and invite the viewer into our world. The doorway has to be so unquestionably exact, it is impossible to tell the difference between concrete reality and our parallel universe.
Once the viewer’s mind is onboard, it becomes possible to guide their subconscious journey through the landscape of the narrative.
Building forms that tap into the shared human psyche, using fields of colour to direct the emotions and movement between objects to create the pulse. These subconscious cues combine to drive the blood flow through the body of the story.
For me, in today’s world, set design has the ability to realize the human odyssey like no other art form. I love to be part of the team; all the different forms of creative thinking within film are a joy. Together we make wider stories that can reach further and touch more people.
